Frequently Asked Questions
When should we getaway to our good birth?
You are advised to attend a good birth getaway any time between 22-37 weeks. We recommend you check with your GP or midwife beforehand.
How is the course taught?
Teachers will teach from evidence-based knowledge and offer support, information, practical skills and resources to help parents make informed choices for themselves and their baby. They do not offer medical advice and parents are asked to take any questions about their medical care or that of their baby to their midwife or doctor.
The class size is small (maximum 6 couples) and sessions are interactive. Parents are encouraged to have their say in the subject matter and direction of discussions.
What do I need to bring?
good birth getaway provides all course materials. Included in the price is the use of a birth ball during the course. We recommend you bring comfortable casual clothes for the seminars as we will encourage you to practice supportive positions for labour. You may want to bring something a little more glamorous for the Saturday evening dinner!
What is the course schedule?
As the course schedule is different at different locations, you'll be sent a course schedule when you book.
How is the course tailored to our personal needs?
So that we can optimize your experience with us and with your individual needs in mind, we have prepared a confidential pre-getaway questionnaire as part of our booking form which provides us with useful course preparation and creates the opportunity for you to consider some areas of pregnancy and labour in the peace of your own home. To make this more convenient for you, the questionnaire is available on the downloadable booking form.
Who are the tutors for good birth getaway?
All tutors have qualified with the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) and have received superior client reviews. Many also have additional qualifications that enhance their teaching such as midwifery or yoga based breathing and relaxation. All have had children themselves.
Each tutor is regularly assessed and required to keep up to date through on-going professional development. We are confident you will find your tutor dynamic as well as approachable and friendly.
What role does the dad-to-be have?
At good birth getaway we firmly believe that there is nothing more rewarding than preparing for the birth of a baby as a couple. A good birth getaway course affords you the luxury of discussing and reflecting upon the kind of birth you are hoping for and how you can jointly improve the chances of that happening (whether you are opting for a hospital birth, in a midwifery let unit, home or water birth).
Dads-to-be are encouraged to become aware of the vital role they can play throughout the pregnancy, during labour and birth and in the early days and weeks after your baby’s arrival.
Is there any support beyond the course?
We know that absorbing information in a short period sometimes means that you may still have questions to ask or decisions to make. At good birth getaway we ensure that you have the appropriate on-going support you may need with your antenatal teacher via email or telephone contact - whichever you prefer.
